Presentango Cup

The dance competition is open to anyone who is of legal age (18 years or older) at the time of the competition and whose physical condition allows them to take part. In addition to the title, there are cash and other prizes to be won.

There are four categories of competition.

Tickets for spectators and competition categories for participants can be booked – just like other festival activities – via the registration form.
For competitors, there is a combined offer that includes all the milongas at a very attractive price.

  • Participation is open to both professional and amateur dancers.
  • Participants must confirm their registration at check-in by presenting their identity document.

2. COMPETITION FORMAT AND PHASES

The competition will take place in different phases, depending on the category:

A) QUALIFYING ROUND

  • All registered couples will participate in a single preliminary round.
  • Each couple will dance once only.

B) FINAL

  • The couples selected in the qualifying phase will compete.
  • Each couple will dance individually, with a piece of music of their choice, for a maximum duration of 4 minutes.

C) “MILONGUEROS” CATEGORY

  • Individual competition, with two awards: leader role and follower role.
  • Participants will change partners for each tanda.
  • Four tangos selected by the jury will be danced, announced just before the start of the round.

3. PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION

  • Participants will register for the competition.
  • Check-in will take place in person. Contestants must present themselves to confirm their prior registration with their ID card or original passport.
  • During this process, the registration will be confirmed and each participant will receive their order number, along with information about the approximate performance times in the relevant phases of their category or categories.

4. EVALUATION CRITERIA

TANGO DE PISTA

The Tango de Pista is conceived as a social dance, where improvisation, a constant embrace, connection between partners and correct circulation on the floor take priority.

Circulation:
  • Couples must move in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Couples who remain in the same spot for more than two musical phrases, thereby blocking the flow, will be penalised.
  • In the event of a general obstruction, the jury may decide that the round repeats a tango.
  • The embrace must be maintained throughout the dance.
Evaluation:
  • Social tango figures (barridas, sacadas al piso, enrosques, ganchos, boleos, etc.) are permitted, provided they do not interfere with other couples.
  • Figures that involve lifting both feet off the ground (acrobatics, jumps, etc.) are not permitted.
  • The following aspects will be evaluated:
    • Musicality
    • Style and elegance in the walk
    • Technique and precision
    • Connection and communication as a couple
    • Ability to adapt the dynamics to the tango being performed
Attire:
  • Attire will not be evaluated, but elegant clothing consistent with the social character of the Tango de Pista is recommended.

TANGO 360

  • The same criteria as in Tango de Pista will apply.
  • In addition, the suitability of style and musicality to the corresponding genre – vals and milonga – will be assessed.
  • In addition to the final round, each finalist couple will perform an individual show to a song of their choice (maximum 4 minutes).
  • The same criteria as in Tango Show will apply to the individual performance of the finalists.

TANGO SHOW

  • Couples and groups will perform an individual show to a song of their choice.
  • The maximum duration is 4 minutes for couples and 5 minutes for groups.
  • A group consists of three to six people.
Evaluation:
  • Techniques from other dance disciplines may be incorporated, provided they enrich the interpretation of tango.
  • The choreography must include traditional tango elements, such as:
    • Ochos
    • Giros
    • Caminatas largas
    • Boleos
    • Ganchos
    • El abrazo milonguero
  • Tricks and aerial movements must not exceed one third of the total choreography.
  • The following aspects will be evaluated:
    • Artistic expression and musicality
    • Technique and quality of execution
    • Stage presence and costume
    • Integration of traditional tango elements

MILONGUERO JACK & JILL CATEGORY

  • Four tangos selected by the organisation will be danced.
  • The same criteria as in Tango de Pista will apply, with special attention to the ability to adapt to different partners in each tango.

5. JURY

  • The jury’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
By registering, participants automatically accept this condition.
  • In case of doubts or disagreements, a written complaint (in Spanish or English) may be submitted to the organisation, never directly to the jury.
  • The score of each performance will be determined by the accumulation of points awarded by each jury member.

6. FILMING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

The organisation reserves the right to film and photograph all phases of the championship for promotional and archival purposes.
By registering, participants expressly authorise the use of such material by the organisation, without financial compensation.
